DEERFIELD — Eight years ago, two former Deerfield High School classmates ran into each other at their 20-year high school reunion. Today, those two women own and operate one of Deerfield’s only locally-owned nail boutiques, “All Polished Up.”
“Andi (Solomon) and I reconnected at our reunion, and I was doing nails in Deerfield and she was working in Wilmette,” co-owner Wendy Seldin said. “I was looking around (to set up a shop), so she decided to come with me, and we opened a little shop in an office space.”
In December of 2011, Seldin said All Polished Up relocated to the Right Bank Salon in downtown Deerfield on Waukegan Road.
Seldin, who said she has been a nail technician for 20 years, said the fact they are Deerfield locals, raised in the community and now raising their own families in the community, makes the salon that much more special.
“It’s nice to give back to Deerfield,” Seldin said. “It’s really nice to have that sense of community, and it’s fun to meet people.”
“Our clients have become our friends,” Solomon, a nail technician of 13 years, said. “It’s a sharing of ideas and family.”
Solomon said her clients’ children take theater classes with her children, so she sees them quite a bit, building a better relationship with them and the community.
Customer service is important to these two women; Seldin and Solomon said they work to meet all their clients’ needs, keeping the salon open for extended hours for those who work during the day.
“We like to take care of our clients and try to meet their needs,” Seldin said. “We’re really flexible with our hours.”
“There are four of us that pretty much work here every day,” Seldin added.
Solomon, who is also an aesthetician, was able to bring customized facial treatments to All Polished Up.
“We have skin care treatments, customized facials, waxing and are one of the few salons in the North Shore that offers sugar hair removal,” Seldin said. “A lot of our clients say it really is pain-free.”
Another draw, Seldin said, is that the salon updates its nail color collection with every season, making sure their clients have access to the latest shades.
“I probably have at least 100 (nail) colors,” Seldin said. “It’s one of the things clients really love about us.”
