THE SKINNY

The Maine South girls soccer team scored one goal in each half as the Hawks defeated Deerfield in a defensive struggle Thursday night in Park Ridge.

TURNING POINT

With the Hawks holding a one-goal lead with 17 minutes left, Maine South senior Jessie Schmidt pounded in an insurance goal from about 20 feet out that sailed over the outstretched arms of Deerfield senior goalie Bailey Bradford. Three minutes later, Deerfield junior Emily Kellow hit the post and didn’t score on a one-on-two opportunity.

THE STARS

Junior Gabby Pinto also netted a goal for the Hawks. She scored 25 minutes into the game off a rebound in front of the net.
