Updated: February 20, 2012 8:45AM

Deerfield police are investigating the cause of an explosion and fire that occurred Jan. 2 at a house at 1033 Osterman Ave. in Deerfield.

The Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Department received a report about the incident at 6:30 a.m., causing personnel to respond to a second floor apartment in the frame home, Deerfield Deputy Police Chief Tom Keane said.

When they arrived, they found a man in the kitchen suffering from burns. He was rushed by ambulance to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, and is still being treated for his injuries, he added.

Damage to the building was minor, Keane said.

Police are reviewing details of the case with the state’s attorney’s office.
