Updated: February 27, 2012 8:08AM

Art show Feb. 3-10

The District 113 Art Show, featuring work from Deerfield and Highland Park high schools, will be on display Feb. 3-10 at The Art Center in Highland Park.

An Opening Reception for the show is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 3. The Art Center is located at 1957 Sheridan Road.

DHS sports now streamed online

DSI, Deerfield Sports Information, is now streaming live video of high school games on the Internet.

“Our kids are working really hard,” Robert Ruiz, DHS athletic director, said.

More than 10 students are participating in the program. They shoot, edit and stream sports games online. Some of the videos are accompanied by a play-by-play commentary. They are also in charge of scoreboard announcements at the games.

The team wants to improve its video and commentary quality as it gains notoriety. Students would also like to conduct live pre- and post-game interviews as well as produce post-game shows.

Anyone interested in sports broadcasting and management is being encouraged to participate. Visit www.ihsa.tv/deerfield to watch.

DHS prom after party date changed

The Deerfield High School Class of 2012 will always remember the NATO and G8 Summits in Chicago. The summits are the reason their senior prom was bumped from the original date of May 19 to the new date of April 21. Events at Chicago’s Sheraton Hotel & Towers, including the prom, were cancelled the weekend of May 19 due to hotel and police department concerns about the potential for protests and riots during the summits.

From the minute they were notified about the date change, the dedicated parents of the DHS Prom After Party committee went to work to ensure the site of the party, the Sachs Recreation Center, and all food and entertainment vendors would be available on April 21. Everything fell into place and the event will go on.

The Prom After Party was established in 2008 to create a safe, sober and fun alternative to traditional post-prom parties. Last year, more than 400 DHS students — nearly everyone who attended the prom — went on to the after party, and the positive buzz the event generated bodes well for the success of this year’s party.

The party, offered at no charge to students, will feature giant inflatable obstacle courses, jousting pits, 3-on-3 volleyball and basketball tournaments, a live DJ and MC, caricature artists, psychics, funny-money casino games, board games, and, of course, dancing. There’s also pizza, sandwiches, wings, frozen treats, baked goods, coffee drinks and smoothies available.

The committee is also hard at work soliciting prizes. Last year’s raffle prizes included sports and concert tickets, electronics, spa certificates and two grand prize flat screen TVs.
