Deerfield Police Blotter for Jan. 24

Updated: February 27, 2012 8:32AM

The following incident was listed in the official reports of the Deerfield Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.

COUNTERFEIT

A grey-haired man described as about 60 years old, 6 feet tall and wearing a black trench coat on Jan. 16 presented a cashier at Whole Foods, 760 Waukegan Road, with a fake $100 bill to pay for some items he was purchasing. When the cashier checked the bill with a marker to verify its authenticity and it flunked the test, she informed the customer. “No big deal,” he told her. “I have another one.” The cashier also checked that bill and her marker indicated it was real, so it paid for the items. Police processed the first bill as evidence and reported the incident to the Secret Service.
