Bannockburn School District 106 is searching for a new School Board member following the resignation of Ann DuBois, who served on the board for 12 years.
DuBois turned in a letter of resignation before the end of her four-year term, which expires in the spring, citing family matters, Superintendent JoAnn Desmond said.
Anyone interested in filling the now vacant board seat should pick up an application in the school office, 2165 Telegraph Road, or visit the school district’s website, www.bannockburnschool.org, and click on the application.
Candidates should complete the application and submit it, along with their resumes, to the school office by 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7. They will be interviewed Wednesday, Feb. 15.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute,” DuBois said. “I’ve seen one of my children all the way through from beginning to end. I also have a fifth grader, so I have a little bit longer at the school, but this is a good time for me to move to my next thing.”
When Dubois joined the board, the district had substantial capital project needs, and she helped fill them as an architect, Desmond said.
“When the district had to replace the school’s boiler system, we investigated geothermal energy so we could be environmentally responsible,” she added. “Now we have geothermal heating and cooling in the school, and better energy efficiency throughout the building because of Ann’s efforts.
“She gave so much of her time, energy and talent to bring the school to phenomenal condition that it is now a state-of-the arts facility that has won awards for being ‘green’.”
Many building improvements have been made during the last few years that are due to DuBois, who headed the district’s building committee for more than a decade, Desmond said.
These include building additions to house a new science lab and music room, as well as new lighting, flooring, lockers and cabinets throughout the building.
The person appointed to sit on the seven-member board until DuBois’ term expires need not be an architect, because the district does not have a need for that kind of experience at this time.
“The person who will be chosen for the position will not have a special agenda, but an interest in education for all the children,” Desmond said.
