A recently finished, but vacant, house may not become anyone’s home for quite a while. Fire caused severe damage Friday morning to an unoccupied structure in Riverwoods.
Paul Schebel, spokesman for the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, wrote in an e-mail that firefighters learned of a blaze at 4:44 a.m. Friday at 2 Wildflower Lane. The house was newly built, and not yet occupied, he wrote.
The fire appeared to have begun in the house’s four-car garage, which contained “significant construction debris,” according to a report, and had extended into the first-floor living area. The entire house suffered heavy smoke damage, it reads.
Firefighters from the LRFPD, Deerfield, Prospect Heights, Lake Zurich and Long Grove had the flames under control in 30 minutes. On Monday, Schebel said investigators were still looking into the cause, and had not yet made a damage estimate.
