The following incident was listed in the official reports of the Deerfield Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.
BURGLARY
Someone on the night of Feb. 9 broke into a locked van parked on the 400 block of Lake Cook Road and stole tools valued at hundreds of dollars. They included a circular saw, a miter box saw, a jigsaw, a cordless drill, three electric sanders, a grinder, about 100 hand tools and a tool box of paint brushes.
THEFT
A Deerfield man discovered someone used his Social Security number between Dec. 1 and Feb. 5 to open several charge accounts in his name. The thief took out a charge account at Best Buy in Menomonee Falls, Wis., to charge items valued at more than $1,881; Best Buy in Kenosha, Wis., Feb. 2 to charge merchandise valued at more than $251; and Kohl’s Department Store in Racine, Wis., to charge goods valued at more than $726. The thief also attempted to take out charge accounts at Target in Racine, Wis.; as well as Sears, Roebuck & Co., Cabelas and Toys R Us at unknown locations, but was unsuccessful at charging merchandise.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
A woman reported that she was victimized by someone who opened a BillMeLater account, a part of Pay Pal, in her name. The person on Jan. 24, Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 used the account to charge a total of $1,201 for electronic merchandise, although none was delivered.
FOUND
Parts of a red and silver mens Mongoose bicycle were found Jan. 4 on the 1000 block of Hackberry Drive.
