Deerfield’s assistant to the village manager has been hired as Buffalo Grove’s new deputy village manager, Buffalo Grove officials announced Wednesday.
Jennifer Maltas, who has worked at Deerfield Village Hall for nearly three years, explained that her career goal is to become a village manager and believes the new position in Buffalo Grove puts her on that path.
“This position is a bigger responsibility in a larger community,” Maltas said. “I got my masters in public administration and want to become a village manager.”
Until her last day in Deerfield, Jan. 11, Maltas said she will continue to work on a slew of large projects, including the proposed commercial waste franchise contract. Village Manager Kent Street said Maltas’ tasks are currently under evaluation and will be reassigned to other village staff when she leaves.
“She’s very talented and I anticipate she will be very successful for Buffalo Grove,” Street said of Maltas. “We’ll definitely miss her.”
Buffalo Grove Village Manager Diane Bragg reported that Maltas was selected out of a pool of 125 candidates.
“There was an extraordinary pool of candidates, but Ms. Maltas consistently demonstrated a high level of expertise and professionalism throughout the interview process,” Bragg said. “We look forward to her arrival in Buffalo Grove.”
Before moving to Deerfield, Maltas worked for the village of Schaumburg from 2007 to 2010. Her primary responsibilities were related to budget and utility issues, according to the news release.
Maltas will begin work in Buffalo Grove on Jan. 21.
“I love working with the (Deerfield) mayor and (village) board,” Maltas said. “They’re great and the staff is great. I’ve gained a lot of friendships and relationships through that, and will miss a lot of people there, but I will just be down the road.”
Street said he is not sure when Maltas’ position in Deerfield will be filled.
