One of the many beautiful traditions at Holy Cross Parish and School is the annual burning of palms on Shrove Tuesday in preparation for Ash Wednesday. Parents and children of our school and parish have been asked to take the blessed palm they had in their homes since last Palm Sunday and to bring it to church to make ashes that we will use on Ash Wednesday. The ashes will be used to trace the sign of the cross on our foreheads to begin the season of Lent.
All are invited to join us at our Shrove Tuesday prayer service and burning of the palms at 2 p.m. Feb. 21 in the church, 720 Elder Lane in Deerfield. The children will also participate in the Ash Wednesday liturgy at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 22 in the church. We are blessed to be a part of the community of faith at Holy Cross and we invite you to join us in prayer.
