Paced by Tony Shapiro and Michael Alfieri, Deerfield rebounded from Friday night’s overtime loss to Highland Park. The Warriors played one of their games of the season in downing visiting Sullivan 75-31 on Saturday night in nonconference play. Shapiro and Alfieri scored 14 points apiece. Shapiro, a junior, nailed four three-pointers. Alfieri led all rebounders with seven. Greg Dikopf of the Warriors had himself a night. The junior came off the bench to score a career-best 12 points. Saying that it’s a “good fit,” Deerfield standout Jason Kayne has made a commitment to play soccer at Tufts University in Boston. Kayne, who helped the Warriors to an 18-6-1 record and a sectional final berth, is one of the area’s most heralded players. Senior Alex Sacks scored a game-high 16 points but it wasn’t enough as Deerfield fell to host Lake Forest 56-46 on Tuesday night. The Warriors (9-12) received nine points each from Mack Watts and Alexander Glantz, while Tony Shapiro helped out with six points and a team-best six rebounds. GIRLS SOCCER — Three players from the Eclipse Select Soccer Club, including Highland Park’s Zoe Redei and Lake Forest’s Ginny McGowan, have been called up to the U.S. U-15 National Team for a February camp. Kayla McCoy of Lincolnwood also got the nod. Redei will join the 97s/98s pool as a forward. McGowan, a defender, has been added to the 95s/96s pool. They will be part of a 48-player camp, which runs from Feb. 11-18 at Sunrise, Fla. Being named to the Metro North All-Star team is one thing. Being selected as one of the game MVPs is an even better thing. Highland Park hockey player Michael Gordon earned that honor following Sunday’s all-star game at Northbrook Sports Center. The senior, a goalie, stood out for the Blue Team, which also featured fellow Giants Zach Kalter, Noah Pickus, Alec Shapiro, Alex Block, Jordan Fox and Zach Putlak. According to the Prep Baseball Report, Brett Shimanovsky, a highly touted hurler for the Highland Park High School baseball team, has made a verbal commitment to St. Louis University. The left-hander is coming off a stellar sophomore season with the Giants. He went 5-1 with a 3.38 ERA, which earned him all-conference honors. He also was credited with two saves. Shimanovsky knows how to make hitters swing and miss. In 39-plus innings last spring, he recorded a team-best 52 strikeouts. He allowed only 35 hits. PBR ranks Shimanovsky No. 21 …

Deerfield’s Samantha Sansweet, who competes for Ultimate Gymnastics, claimed a title at the recent National Judges Cup State Meet in Indianapolis. Sansweet, competing in Level 7 (12-13s), captured the balance beam title with a score of 9.20. Sansweet also took third on vault (9.05) and fifth on bars (8.75).
