No doubt, he’ll run into some Cardinals fans down there.
According to the Prep Baseball Report, Brett Shimanovsky, a highly touted hurler for the Highland Park High School baseball team, has made a verbal commitment to St. Louis University.
The left-hander is coming off a stellar sophomore season with the Giants. He went 5-1 with a 3.38 ERA, which earned him all-conference honors. He also was credited with two saves.
Shimanovsky knows how to make hitters swing and miss. In 39-plus innings last spring, he recorded a team-best 52 strikeouts. He allowed only 35 hits.
PBR ranks Shimanovsky No. 21 in Illinois (Class of 2013). According to PBR, the 6-foot, 170-pounder, who plays his club ball with Top Tier, “saw his stock soar during the Fall Prospect Program (where) he dominated the competition with a three-pitch repertoire, including a deceptive mid-80s fastball.”
Highland Park figures to be highly competitive this spring. Two seniors on the squad — catcher Jason Goldstein (Illinois) and middle infielder Jordan Schwartz (UT-Dallas) — are college recruits.
